Summertime pastimes...

We had a really fun summer!  We had some amazing camping trips, a successful garden, some really fun play time in the yard, and great evenings watching the sunset over the mountains. I love that summer brings bare feet, dirty faces, and a slight change in our daily schedule. Luke was at an age this year where he was able to really keep up with everyone else, and that allowed us all to play together.  Water fights, bike rides, hikes, baseball, hockey, bunny rabbits, swings and many more wonderful things graced us this summer.  It was enchanting to watch and be apart of, and I can't wait for next summer!  Alas, the time has come where I am enjoying the leaves changing color, and breathing in the cool crisp air.  Time to say "goodbye" to summer, and "hello" to the holiday season!!!

*** I am not too upset... I LOVE the holidays!!!!

Tech Savvy Baby?

I wouldn't consider my kids tech savvy... well kind of, but not really.  They know how to swipe their finger on the ipad, and how to push the buttons on the apps.  Blake actually knows how to find the pictures on phones and ipads, so watch out if you have something on there that you don't want him to see :)  BUT... They don't play video games or computer games.  Blake would rather be outside then watching tv, but he has taken a rather impulse liking to Dora lately.  Never the less, his primary interests are those that are outside... hockey, dirt, bikes, baseballs.  that's how it has always been, and I will fight to make sure it stays that way.  But, since Luke is a little more exposed to it then Blake was, I think that we need to be a little more careful about what we are showing him...

I set him on our bed, and he grabbed Kyle's phone off the nightstand, tucked himself into bed and acted like he knew what he was doing... well, maybe he did??

I know that there needs to be a balance... if you never expose them to any of it, then they are going to be behind because, lets face it, this is how the world works.  But, if you over expose them, then they become little zombies and don't know what dirt tastes like.  I think that our kids, for now, have a pretty good balance between these two worlds, but I remember getting Nintendo at like 10, and it was a big deal!  Now, kids have DS's and ipads at 2 and 3... slow down babies... I am not going to be able to keep up!!

I will admit that we bought Blake a Kindle Fire for his 4th birthday... very closely monitored of course!  We have blocked everything except the educational stuff and he still needs our help to use it... I bet, not for long!

Still, these two love the smell of the great outdoors best, and so do their parents!!
